Antique & Vintage Radio Restoration

A radio restoration consists of a basic set of services. Many times, the parts replaced as part of the restoration will return most antique and vintage radios back to safe, reliable operation. In order to determine the cost of your radio restoration, it will be necessary to inspect the chassis to determine it's condition and what parts are required.

A typical radio restoration includes:

  • Replacement of all paper and electrolytic capacitors
  • For Philco radios that use them, bakelite condenser blocks are rebuilt
  • Replacement of any out of tolerance resistors
  • Replacement of the power cord
  • Installation of an in-line fuse in the power line, if one is not already installed
  • Testing of all tubes with replacement of any bad or marginal tubes
  • Light cleaning of the chassis
  • Cleaning and lubrication of controls
  • Replacement of failing chassis wiring, as needed
  • Replacement of power transformer lead wiring, as needed
  • Speaker reconing and repair, as needed

Approximate fees to restore the electronics of your antique radio:

  • Small 4 - 6 tube table radio: $50 to $90, plus parts.
  • Mid to large size table radio: $100 to $200, plus parts.
  • Zenith Transoceanic: $80 to $175, plus parts.
  • Floor model: $200 to $450, plus parts.

Please note that these prices are only approximate. An inspection of your radio will be required to determine the exact cost. Other services such as chassis rewiring and speaker reconing, if needed, would be additional.

All radio restorations come with a 6 month warranty covering labor and all replaced parts.

I receive many emails about many things. You can find answers to many of the common questions about having your radio restored that I've received on my FAQ page.
